Common questions

What does this tracker show?

Two things: state laws that have already been enacted with a future effective date, and the entries we checked most recently. Every item links to the state page and the source it is based on.

Do you predict future laws?

No. An upcoming change is only listed once a law or rule has been adopted with a specific effective date. Proposed or pending bills are not listed here until they are enacted with a date.

Why does a dated change not show on the state page yet?

A state page shows the current law until the change takes effect. On the effective date the page updates automatically to the new status. This page lets you see the change in advance.

How often is this updated?

Entries are rechecked against official sources on an ongoing basis, and each state page shows its own last-checked date. This page lists the most recent of those checks.
